If you're looking to escape reality, look no further than the mystical world of artist Meghan Edwards, known as Crystal Cosmos. Contrasting pastels and bright colors against dark backgrounds, her fantastical artwork is like stepping into a another dimension, a fantasy elevated by its enigmatic elements.
What started out as just a hobby for Meghan has bloomed into a lifetime path celebrating her love of art. Honing in on graphic design in college, she propelled her art a step further when she was "poached" into the illustration department by professors. She hasn't looked back since.
Marrying vivid dreams with real life experiences, Meghan strives to "evoke a sense of wonder and excitement" within her work. Specifically, she draws from her love of festival culture and the allure of outdoor adventures and traveling the country in a van. As an active member of the festival scene, she has live-painted and presented her work across the country, from local Midwest festivals to Sonic Bloom in Colorado. The support and kindness of the people she's met along the way encourage her to keep creating and growing, with the ultimate goal of hitting the road and selling her art wherever she can.
"I always hope to create an image where a person can forget the troubles of their
everyday life and get lost in," Meghan says. In her dazzling doodles of outer space forests and cosmo mermaids, how could you not?

Favorite part about the Chicago creative community?
The support. Everyone is here for everyone else, at least in my experience. There is
no overlying sense of competition, just people trying to their best and helping others to
be their best.
Favorite TV show?
So many to choose from. I recently rewatched "Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams" on
Amazon Prime and its so good. I would say it's my current favorite.
Favorite cocktail?
I'm not into anything fancym just a vodka lemonade or a vodka soda.
Favorite Chicago artist?
My favorite Chicago Visual artist is Sub_Urban Warrior. I love her use of color and the
dreamlike quality of her work.
"Spotlight On" is a bi-weekly series highlighting Chicago creatives with a twist. We share a slice of their stories and what they love, hoping to inspire and connect.
