Spotlight On: Mai, R&B Singer & Songwriter

Updated: Jul 10, 2018

The sensational singer shares her playlist that's just as moody as what we can expect on her upcoming EP.

If you're a fan of Sabrina Claudio and Alina Baraz, good news—we've found your newest obsession. Meet Mai, R&B singer/songwriter and queen of the moody ballad. Her

slinky sound will make you want to crank up the volume and soak up every drop of its fine-tuned finesse.

Since releasing her first single "Show Me" in February, Mai has made waves on Instagram. From teasers of her new music to Amy Winehouse covers, her passion for artistry shines through. While her songs have a modern electric groove, it's also very apparent how powerhouses like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey influence her style and songwriting.

As the Chicago native gears up to drop her first EP, she reflects on how emotions drive her craft. "I'm inspired by music and moods that either give me goosebumps or take me away to another world." And while some artists feel overwhelmed by the music industry's constant change, Mai fully embraces it through finding new processes and connecting to fans on social media. "Artists can get so much done by themselves and it has [motivated] me to take control."

"I'm inspired by music and moods that can either give me goosebumps or take me away to another world."

Don't miss Mai's second single "Serenity," which will be available on all major streaming platforms this week. It's the perfect addition to your summer playlist for a night out or for chilling on the beach.
